Red Wine of the Month
This 2012 Italian red, from the Tuscany region is made from the sangiouese grape. It's a DOCG (Italy's top ranking) consistantly earning 92 points or more on average this bottle will cost approx $43.00.
This wine has aromas of rosemary, violet and dark spice. For me these arpmas bring me back to the mediterranean, which of course makes me smile. On the palare ir's juicy and gives layers of succulent wild cherry, black raspberry, and clove. The tannins are polished and provide a graceful, willowy framework.
I love this wine with grilled or roasted red meat. If you eat game it's wonderful with that. If you are looking to serve it with cheese, get a pungent or aged cheese. It is delicious!
Palagetto 2017 Vernaccia San Gimignano DOCG
White Whine of the Month
This dry Italian white wine is 100% made from the vernaccia di san Gimignano graps. San Gimignano produces some of Tuscany's best white wines bases or it's own cariety Vernaccia. It's a small appellation to the west of chianti and centered around the romantic village of the same name.
You may not have heard of Veraccia, but it's been around for quite some time. In the 13th century Dante and Franseco Redi made written record of it in poems.
It has aromas of mineral but also white peach and melon. On the palate it has fresh notes and a bit of green almond. It's very well balanced, and has a lovely finish.
This wine will go well with fish or puff pastry appetizers, and hard to pair vegtables like asparagus and artichoke. With Easter on it's way, keep this wine in mind.
Cocktail of the Month: Lady in Blue
Yes, we have shared gin previously on this site, but we could not help sharing this particular cocktail for April. Afterall, if the Lady in Blue doesn't scream "Easter egg!" and "It's spring!" upon first glance, we don't know what will.
This twist on a White Lady cocktail is made with Beefeater Gin. This bold and distinct gin has set the standard for London Dry Gins since 1863.
1 1⁄2 oz Beefeater gin
3⁄4 oz Fresh lemon juice
1⁄2 oz Simple syrup
3 drops Prange flower water
1⁄4 oz Crème de violette
Add all ingredients except for the blue curaçao into a shaker with ice and shake vigorously. Double-strain into a coupe glass. Garnish with edible flower petals. Pour a slip of the blue curaçao down the side of the glass so that it layers on the bottom.
Sparkling Cherry Limeade
This pop of spring drink is perfect for that big egg hunt! Both kids and adults will enjoy this bubbly treat.
1 lime, cut into wedges (optional)
Margarita salt (optional)
1 (12-oz.) can frozen limeade concentrate, thawed
3 1/2 cups cold water
1/2 cup liquid from jarred red maraschino cherries
2 cups sparkling water
Garnishes: lime slices, maraschino cherries
Rub rims of 8 chilled glasses with lime wedges, and dip rims in salt to coat, if desired. Stir together limeade concentrate and 3 1/2 cups cold water; add liquid from maraschino cherries. Fill prepared glasses with ice. Pour limeade mixture into glasses, filling each two-thirds full; add sparkling water to fill.
