Pura Sicilia Purato 2017 Catarratto Pinot Grigio

White Wine of the Month

This Sicilian wine boasts not only of being organic but also green to the extreme. This wine is carbon neutral, vegan-friendly, and packaged purely in recycled materials.

The 2017 Catarratto Pinot Grigio is 60% Catarratto, and 40% Pinot Grigio. After fermentation, the two wines are blended and kept on fine lees. The end result is aromas of tropical fruits and some floral notes. On the palate, it has crisp acidity, with some complexity from its time on lees. The balance is fine, with an amazing length. I would serve this as an aperitif, or with light seafood.

It is wonderful how this wine maintains its native roots, is organic, carbon neutral, vegan-friendly, 100% recycled paper, 80% recycled glass, 100% recycled cardboard, 100% pure vegetable ink, and is still between $10.00 and $12.00 a bottle!

Frozen Dark & Stormy

Cocktail of the Month

Is it hot where you are? How about we cool down with a frozen twist on a classic drink.

If you are not familiar with a Dark and Stormy, it's a highball cocktail made with dark rum (the dark) and ginger beer (the stormy). If you're thinking, "Wait, I've had that, but it was called something else," you're not mistaken. The Dark 'n' Stormy has been claimed by the Gosling Brothers, and they use the power of their trademark. To avoid legal issues, many places serve this mix under different names, such as "Safe Harbor."

Today, we are serving our Dark & Stormy frozen. We hope it helps you stay cool on these hot summer days!

1 can ginger beer

1 tbsp. fresh ginger

Juice of 1 lime

2 c. ice

4 oz. dark rum

  1. In a blender, blend first 4 ingredients until smooth.

  2. Divide among 2 glasses and float 2 oz. dark rum on top of each.

Grilled Pineapple & Lime Mocktail

Non-Alcoholic for under 21 & Designated Drivers

Imagine this: you're at a cookout and its time for dessert. What's the best possible item that can be put in front of you? Answer: Grilled Pineapple (fight us on it)! Now imagine the amazing flavor of grilled pineapple captured in a fun summer drink. It's pretty amazing.

For the grilled pineapple:

  • 2 tbsp honey

  • 1 tbsp fresh lime juice

  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

  • 1 ripe pineapple, cut into rounds

In a small bowl, combine the honey, lime juice, and cinnamon and whisk to blend. Set aside. Remove the husk from the pineapple and slice into 1-inch thick rings, and place on a preheated grill.  Baste slices with marinade while cooking. Cook 4-5 minutes each side until nicely caramelized. Transfer the pineapple to a bowl and place in the fridge until cold.

For the drink:

  • ½ cup grilled pineapple

  • 2 tbsp lime juice

  • 1 tsp honey

  • 2 tbsp. sparkling orange juice

  • club soda

Blend together first 3 ingredients in a food processor or blender. Pour over a glass filled with crushed ice. Add the sparkling orange juice and top off with club soda. Stir. Garnish with a grilled pineapple slice.
