Cabriz Doc DÃO Portugal Colheita Selecionada
Red Wine of the Month
This is a red blend from Portugal, the Dão E Lafoes region, and made from the Alfrocheiro, Tintaroriz, and Touriganacional grapes. It has a crisp and minerally taste with concentrated flavors of dark cherry, plum, and dried raspberries. What I love most about it is the layers of rich spicy notes and hints of pepper at the finish.
Portugal wines are not well known in the US, but they make powerful reds to delicate whites at a fine quality and excellent price point. You should be able to find this bottle at an average of $10.00.
Chartron La Fleur 2017 Bordeaux Sauvignon Blanc
White Wine of the Month
If you are looking for a nice inexpensive white wine from Bordeaux, here you go!
This wine has some of the classic Bordeaux minerality that I love. It has aromas of melon, and reminds me a bit of cucumber, on the palate it is soft, with tastes of honeydew melon, a bit of lime and the grassy benchmark Sauvignon Blanc is known for. The acidity is low, and it's very dry.
I wouldn't buy this for a special occasion, but certainly for a cookout. It would oair well with poultry or pork based appetizers and lean fish. At less then $10.00 a bottle, perfect for my next cookout. By the way, it's never too early to start stocking up for those summer get togethers!
Cheers!
