Avia- Pinot Noir- 2016 Slovenia
Red Wine of the Month
This pleasing ruby red wine, with a bright flowery nose and hints of strawberry, and cherry. It is distinctly fruity. But it’s light acidity gives give’s it a lovely harmonious character. It is medium body has a light finish in the traditional Burgundian style. What amazed me most of all is it’s price point. Generally, I prefer Pinot Noir at the higher end of the price point, but I purchased this little gem for $7.00! I will be serving this as my second aperitif option on Thanksgiving. In the meantime I will be purchasing a case of this!
White Wine of the Month
Over the centuries winegrowers have terraced the steep slopes below the little village of Krasno to plant their vines. This unique land produces distinctly mineral authentic wines, full bodied with a long finish.
It is a straw yellow color with golden hues. The aromas are gentle of ripe white fruit, spices and field flowers. No doubt this would be great with fish, and spicy white meats, but I intend to use it as one of my aperitif wines on Thanksgiving. It runs on average $18.00 a bottle, but is just the sort of interesting white I am always looking for.
